- Step shelves help make items further behind more visible.
- Uniform containers appear neater.
- One bag to rule them all.
- Chain down keys.
- Use walls and vertical space
Where to Store
- Store less used items out of the way.
- Store everyday items in easy-access spots.
- Store like with like.
- Store tools and items where they're used most
Out of Sight = Out of Mind
Store uncommonly used items, or objects that cause distractions (phone, gaming consoles, etc.), away from view. Likewise, place essentials where they can be seen and easily accessed. Place visual cues for hidden but needed items.
Visual Cues
- See-through containers make it easier to find what you're looking for.
- Label containers with item name, and, if applicable, when it should be replaced or discarded.
- Simple color-coding system: per person, per subject, etc.
Activity Stations
For everyday routines, such as bathing, cooking, making coffee, and leaving the house, prepare a dedicated area where all the relevant items and tools are placed nearby. Make sure to place visual cues. Use only the station for its dedicated activity, and leave when doing something else.
- Launchpad: Area for getting ready in the morning and leaving / re-entering the house. Clothes, shoes, bags, wallet, keys, phone, and anything else that needs to be brought out.
Controlled Purging
Decluttering
- Take note of things that are unused for months, see if they will get used in the next 1-2 months, and if not, donate or sell, or place somewhere easier to see and access.
- Decide on a "due date" for unused items, and if it is not used in that time, discard it.
- Sticker method: place an easy-to-peel sticker on new items. Decide on a due date. Remove sticker when item is used. Consider discarding items that still have stickers by the due date..
- KonMari method
- USE your items. Do not wait for special occasions.

- Deli containers can be reused until damaged or discolored. Can be microwave-save and BPA-free.
- Mason jars.
- Make sure knives don't clink into each other or their container.
- Label food and when it was prepared with tape and a marker.
