More AI Ramblings
(Rambling - there's no point to this, just trying to exorcise the thoughts)
When I see people using AI to generate a random pretty picture for desktop backgrounds, etc. all I can think of is how… divorced the usual person is from the process of art, design, and photography
It’s “just” a pretty picture, but we’re constantly underestimating the amount of skill required for someone to create “just” a pretty photo. The fact that it took the popularity of generative AI for them to do it despite the tools for creating pretty pictures existing and being accessible for fucking ages (traditional art tools, image editors, phone cams, etc.) says a lot.
Funnily enough this doesn’t apply to written works. Good. Pretty prose relies on subverting the usual patterns of language, so LLMs can’t really generate those breath-taking stories.
(They’re really good at adjusting formality/friendliness though so that’s one thing they’re useful as a tool for)
