How I feel about AI chats

Oof. I’m gonna be one of those oldies who’ll never figure out what in the world is interesting about character AI chats or AI interactive fiction.

There’s nothing a character AI chat can give to me that a fic writer or my own imagination cannot. And both don’t come with 2-min wait times for the next sentence, or the character becoming incomprehensible after 5 or so sentences.

Everything I enjoy about reading a story, an AI chat cannot replicate, simply because of how AI functions. Unusual world-building. Emotional weight. Scenes and characters that parallel and complement and contrast each other. The artistry of prose. The tension between what the artist has to say, what they didn’t intend to say, what they wish the audience to hear, and whatever it is that prevents or obfuscates their vision. How the times the artist lives in influence what they create. Just. The conversation that happens between the artist and the world and the genre and the audience.
